Assessment of analgesic efficacy of magnetic fields of different characteristics
Keywords:
low back pain, magnetotherapy, magnetostimulalion.
Summary:
The importance of variable magnetic fields used in physical therapy has been mereasing recently. It is therefore essential test the clinical usefulness of these fields.
The study was carried out on three groups of patients who suffered from low back pain. In the first group the magnetic „bed” in the QRS system was applied twice a day, 8 minutes for one applicaton. In the seconel group, placebo was used, and in the third group, the magnencfield generated by Alphatron with 2.9 mT induction, 40 Hz frequency, rectangular shape of wave in 20 min time of application was used as therapy. The therapy was applied for 15 days with breaks for weckends. Standard kinesistherapy was performed at the same time.
The assessment was carried out using of two pam scales: Husskisson visual analoque scale (VAS) and modified Lanmen scale hefore and after the treatment. The Schober test results were compared as well.
Statisitcally significant differences were obtained in: the first group the reduction of pam intensity and taking medicines, in an increase of daily activity and in reduction of general pam assessment in the VAS scale. In the second group the only significant difference was observed in the lower intensity of pani, which was shown on VAS scale. In the thrid group the statistically stgnificant difference referred to a decrease in the intensity and ferquency of pain and the głobał assessment of pain m the VAS scale. The results of Schober test did not show any differences.
The statistical comparison between all the groups proves the strongest analgesice effect of the QRS system. The results of the comparison between Alphatron and placebo did not reveal any significant differences in any of the evaluated traits.
